A desire to have fun and learn
Mosaics are graphical representations made with tesserae. Tesserae are small pieces of stone, terracotta (clay that has been shaped and fired in a kiln), marble or glass, that are used to decorate floors and walls.
They started being used on the island of Crete, throughout the Minoan period, and since then up to the present day they have been present in our lives.
The most famous are the Roman mosaics. These represented everyday scenes in the homes of the well-to-do classes: scenes of gladiators, wild animals, hunting, delicious dishes and meals or deities and mythological beings.
In Mallorca there are mosaics in the Roman city of Pol·lèntia and the Basilica complex of Son Peretó. Why not try making one to take home with you?
